1963 Custom Port Weller Dry Dock 62' Steel Tug

Port Weller Dry Dock of St. Catharines, Ontario built some of the toughest working vessels on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway for over a century. Steel hulled, purpose built, and made to last, their tugs were engineered for the demanding conditions of Canadian commercial waters. The “Fred Scandrett” is a genuine example of that heritage, a 62 foot single screw steel harbour tug that has spent her entire life right here in Ontario. Launched in 1963 as the “C.E. Ted Smith” for the McFadden Lumber Company, this 62 footer carries a single screw diesel rated at 380 horsepower, a classic steel hull, a forward pilothouse, and a full working aft deck. The traditional harbour tug profile, deep bulwarks, and heavy ground tackle are exactly what you would expect from a vessel built to push and tow on the Great Lakes. Below decks she offers a blank canvas for crew quarters, a galley, and a head, ready to be finished to your own specification. In 1969 she was acquired by the Toronto Port Authority and renamed the following year after Fred Scandrett, the Toronto Harbour Commissioner through the 1950s and 1960s. She worked Toronto harbour for decades before being retired in the late 2000s, and she remains laid up in the Port of Toronto today.
